What to Expect

What happens at my first appointment?

My priority is to make you as comfortable and well informed as possible

Firstly, we will discuss your lifestyle and your reason for coming for Chiropractic care, along with your goals and what you would like to get out of coming for treatment. There will be a series of questions about this and any previous medical history and medications you are taking (please bring a list of your medications and doses if applicable). Dependent on your condition, we will undertake some tests to help work out a likely diagnosis of your issue. This may involve you removing some clothing. A gown will be provided for this to protect your dignity.

Once a working diagnosis is made, it will be thoroughly explained to you and a treatment plan will be suggested which may involve adjustments, stretches, exercises etc, dependent on your condition. Unless you have a complicated or extensive medical history and/or complaint, there is normally a treatment as part of your initial consultation. As everyone’s body is different and we all respond to treatment differently, the treatment plan is subject to change so that we get the best results. There is no obligation to go ahead with the treatment plan and the decisions about your treatment are always made by you.

How many treatments will I need?

This is a question to which there is no definitive answer. There is also no “one size fits all” treatment plan and it is very important in my practice that we make a suitable and realistic plan just for you. As a general rule, if you have a long-standing injury, it will take longer to treat than an injury that occurred just a couple of days ago. This is not set in stone though – some people respond very quickly to treatment and, coupled with a rehab programme, resolution of your injury could be quicker. Again, as a general rule: the more you engage with the treatment plan and rehab programme, the quicker your injury will resolve and the less you need to see me!

Once your injury is resolved and you are back to normal activities and daily life, you may wish to take up a maintenance plan to stay injury free and keep everything moving and working as well as it can. This varies from person to person depending on your activity levels, job, lifestyle etc, and if this is something that interests you, we can discuss your options in order to make the best decision for you.

What should I wear?

Something loose fitting, or stretchy fabrics make it easier for me to treat you. However, I appreciate this is not always practical, so a gown will be provided if you are required to disrobe for a part of your treatment.
