Headaches becoming a regular thing?
They don't have to be.

Headaches are common — but they're not something you just have to put up with. Many are driven by how the neck and upper back are functioning, which means they're very treatable. We find what's contributing and deal with it.

Not all headaches feel the same

Headaches can present in very different ways depending on what's driving them. Here's what we commonly see at the clinic:

A dull, tight pressure around the head or temples
Pain starting at the base of the skull and moving forward
Tension through the neck and shoulders that builds into a headache
Pain behind the eyes or across the forehead
Headaches that come on after long periods at a desk or screen
Regular or near-daily headaches that painkillers only partially touch

Why headaches keep coming back

There are several types of headache, and sometimes more than one factor is involved. The most common ones we see respond well to chiropractic care:

  • Cervicogenic headaches — driven by how the joints at the top of the neck are moving
  • Tension-type headaches — linked to muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and jaw
  • Postural strain — sustained desk work or looking down at screens loading the upper neck
  • Jaw tension or clenching — often overlooked but a common contributor

Many headaches are closely connected to neck pain — particularly when the joints at the top of the neck aren't moving well. They can also be influenced by postural patterns that develop gradually with desk-based work. Migraines are more complex — we can sometimes help reduce contributing factors, but we'll always be honest about what's within our scope.

What happens when you come in

Your first appointment covers both assessment and treatment. We won't just ask questions and send you home with a leaflet.

1

We assess your neck and upper back

Many headaches are driven by how the neck and upper back are functioning. We look at joint movement, muscle tension, and posture to identify what's contributing.

2

We treat the relevant areas

Where clinically appropriate, we start hands-on treatment in the same session — chiropractic adjustments to the neck and upper back, soft tissue work, and addressing movement patterns that are loading the area.

3

We help reduce how often they come back

Short-term relief is the starting point. The aim is to reduce frequency, severity, and reliance on painkillers — and give you the tools to manage things long term.

Results that build over time

Headache treatment tends to be gradual — but most patients notice a change in frequency or severity within a few sessions. Here's what to expect:

After your first visit

Most patients notice reduced tension in the neck and upper back. Some notice an immediate reduction in headache frequency — others improve more gradually.

Over several treatments

Headaches typically become less frequent and less severe. We adjust the plan as you respond and keep you informed throughout.

Longer term

As headaches settle, appointments space out. We'll give you self-management strategies and be honest about when you no longer need us.

Results vary depending on the type of headache and how long symptoms have been present. We'll give you an honest picture at your first appointment.

You don't need to wait until they're severe

If headaches are becoming a regular feature of your week, it's worth getting them assessed. The sooner we identify what's contributing, the quicker we can address it.

Get it checked if your headaches are:

  • Happening more than once a week
  • Linked to neck tension, desk work or screen time
  • Affecting your focus, work or sleep
  • Only partially controlled by painkillers

Seek urgent medical attention if you experience a sudden severe headache unlike anything before, headache with fever, or headache with neurological symptoms such as confusion or vision changes.
