Sciatica Treatment in West London (Paddington)
“Sciatica” is a word a lot of people use - but it’s often misunderstood. At Right Track Chiropractic in West London, one of the first things we explain is this:
Sciatica is a symptom, not a diagnosis.
It simply describes pain that travels along the sciatic nerve - usually from the lower back into the glutes, and sometimes down the leg.
The important question isn’t just:
“Is it sciatica?”
It’s:
“What’s causing it?”
What Does Sciatica Feel Like?
Sciatica can feel different depending on what’s driving it, but common symptoms include:
Pain travelling from the lower back into the leg
A deep ache in the glute (buttock)
Sharp, shooting or burning pain down the leg
Tingling or pins and needles
Sometimes numbness or weakness
For some people, it’s constant. For others, it comes and goes depending on movement or position.
What Causes Sciatica?
Because sciatica is a symptom, there are several possible causes.
Common ones we see in clinic include:
Disc irritation or herniation (often called a “slipped disc”)
Nerve irritation or compression in the lower back
Piriformis syndrome (where a muscle in the glute irritates the nerve)
Facet joint irritation in the spine
General joint restriction affecting how the lower back moves
Muscle tension or imbalance around the hips and lower back
Sciatica symptoms are often linked to underlying back pain, particularly when joints or discs in the lower back are irritated. Some cases are also influenced by muscle tension and movement patterns, similar to what we see with sports injuries.
Sometimes it’s one clear cause. Sometimes it’s a combination. That’s why guessing doesn’t help - assessing properly does. And that's where we come in.
How We Approach Sciatica at Right Track Chiropractic
At our clinic near Paddington in West London, we focus on identifying what’s actually driving your symptoms.
1. We assess properly
Not just where it hurts — but how your spine, hips and nervous system are functioning.
2. We treat the underlying issue
This may include:
Chiropractic adjustments to improve joint movement
Soft tissue work around the lower back and glutes
Movement-based rehab where appropriate
3. We guide your recovery
The aim is not just short-term relief, but helping you get back to normal movement without symptoms constantly returning.
What to Expect
Your first session is about understanding your symptoms and what’s causing them.
From there, we’ll:
Explain what we think is going on (clearly, no jargon)
Start treatment where appropriate
Give you a plan based on how you respond
Some cases settle quickly. Others take longer - especially if the symptoms have been there for a while.
When Should You Get It Checked?
If you’re experiencing:
Pain travelling down the leg
Persistent glute or lower back pain
Tingling, numbness, or weakness
…it’s worth getting it assessed.
Especially if it’s:
Not improving
Getting worse
Limiting your day-to-day movement
